Training impact evaluation

Training impact evaluation is a way of establishing whether the training has translated into work. Commonly, only participant satisfaction is measured, immediately after the session, which speaks to the quality of the trainer and the refreshments, not to the impact. A usable evaluation has three levels. The first is verifying knowledge with a short practical task, not a test. The second is a change in behaviour, established after an interval of several weeks – how many people actually use the tools and for what tasks, which can be found out with a short survey or directly from a usage overview. The third is the impact on work expressed as a number, for example time saved on a specific task or a faster response to enquiries. Measure the baseline before the training, otherwise you will have nothing to compare against.
