Unlinked mentions

Unlinked mentions are places where someone has stated the name of your company, product, or the name of your people, but has not linked to your website. They are the easiest source of links, because half the work is already done – the author has already mentioned you, so they know about you and have no reason to refuse a link. You find them by monitoring brand mentions, alerts for new occurrences of the name, and a simple search for the company name excluding your own domain. The outreach should be short and to the point: thanks for the mention, a note on where they can find more information, and an offer of a link as a help to the reader. Even if a link is not added, the mention itself has value for building the entity and for generative search engines, which build a picture of a company on the consensus of sources.
