Lists of debtors are public records of entities with outstanding arrears towards the Social Insurance Agency, health insurance companies and the tax office. They have a twofold significance for companies. For applications for grants, contributions and in public procurement, being debt-free is a condition that the provider verifies as of a set date – even a small arrear the company is unaware of will cause the application to be excluded, regardless of the quality of the project. In business relationships, the lists serve to quickly check a partner, since arrears on contributions tend to be the first signal of payment problems. It is worth checking your own status a few weeks before submitting an application, so that time remains to settle it and for the list to be updated, which does not happen instantly. Most providers today verify confirmation of being debt-free themselves, but the company must give its consent or submit the document.
