Grants for food processing support investments in food-processing operations – technology, storage, refrigeration, packaging, hygiene equipment and capacity increases. The aim is to shift production from selling raw materials to products with higher added value and to strengthen domestic processing. Applicants are typically agricultural primary producers, food-processing companies and sometimes producer associations. Support is provided mainly from the strategic plan of the common agricultural policy through the paying agency. Particular attention is required for compliance with hygiene and veterinary requirements, which is demonstrated by a statement from the relevant authorities, and for demonstrating outlets for the produce, since evaluators check whether the company can actually sell the increased production. Projects focused on short supply chains and farm-gate sales, which connect the producer directly with the consumer, are also given extra points. The usual permit requirements apply to construction work.
