VEGA and KEGA are grant agencies of the Ministry of Education intended for universities and the Slovak Academy of Sciences. VEGA finances basic and applied research by scientific teams, while KEGA focuses on projects for the development of education, the creation of teaching materials, the modernisation of teaching and linking education with practice. These are smaller grants with an emphasis on outputs in the form of publications, university textbooks or validated methodologies. Applications are submitted by a university employee together with their team and are approved by expert committees. For companies, these schemes can be of indirect interest – as a route to cooperation with an academic institution on developing a methodology, testing, or preparing educational content that is subsequently used in their own practice. Submissions take place on fixed deadlines once a year, so cooperation with a university must be planned several months in advance.
