Cold contact

Cold contact is reaching out to a party with which the company has no prior relationship. In B2B it is a legitimate channel, but its effectiveness depends on two things that are most often underestimated. The first is selection: you should reach out to a narrowly defined list matching the ideal customer profile, not as many contacts as possible. The second is the reason for reaching out – the message must contain a specific connection to that particular company and a named problem, not an introduction of your own services. Brevity helps more than a list of references. Expect a low response rate, and that value arises from repeated, not pushy, contact. Check the legal side of outreach in advance, especially for emails and the handling of contact data, as the rules differ by form and by recipient.
