The decision between a ready-made solution and custom development is among the most expensive mistakes when adopting AI. You can deploy a ready-made tool within days, you pay a subscription, you receive improvements without any effort, and you carry little risk. The limitation is that you have to adapt to its logic, and sensitive data goes to the provider. Custom development gives full control and the ability to build a solution that fits your process exactly, but it requires an upfront investment, internal capacity, and above all long-term maintenance, which is almost always underestimated in the calculations.
