The Office for Personal Data Protection of the Slovak Republic is the supervisory authority that oversees compliance with data protection rules in Slovakia. It carries out inspections both on its own initiative and on the basis of complaints from data subjects, imposes measures and fines, and receives notifications of security incidents within the stipulated deadline. For companies, however, it also serves as a source of interpretation – it publishes methodological guidelines, opinions and document templates that help with practical questions where the wording of the regulation is general. For processing with high residual risk, it can be approached for a prior consultation. It is worth following its decisions and opinions in particular for camera systems, marketing communication and the deployment of artificial intelligence tools. Its opinions are not legally binding, but in practice they determine how the rules are interpreted during an inspection.
