Integrated Territorial Investment (ITI) is a tool for implementing EU funds that moves part of the decision-making on support from the central level to the regions. Each self-governing region has prepared an integrated territorial strategy defining the development priorities of the territory, and the selection of project intentions is co-decided by a partnership council made up of representatives of the region, towns, municipalities, the state and socio-economic partners. ITI also includes sustainable urban development carried out in the territory of functional urban areas. In the Slovakia Programme, a separate allocation is earmarked for integrated territorial investments, from which projects such as regional roads, secondary schools, social services or cycle paths are financed. The applicant first submits the project intention to the partnership council and, after its approval, submits an application for a non-repayable financial contribution in the relevant call.
