Podcast distribution works differently from video. Episodes are uploaded to a single provider, which turns them into a channel in a standardised format, and individual platforms pull the content from that channel themselves. A podcast is therefore registered on each platform once, and nothing further needs to be uploaded there afterwards. Several practical consequences follow. Changing provider is possible without losing listeners if the channel is redirected. The data in the channel – the title, description, category, artwork – is reflected everywhere, so it is worth investing effort in it. And measurement differs by platform, so there is no single precise listener count; track the trend and downloads over the same period after publication. In the channel description, also state who the podcast is for and how often it comes out – both pieces of information influence whether a listener subscribes.
