A pilot group is a smaller team of employees who try out a new tool or procedure first and provide feedback before it is rolled out across the whole company. When introducing artificial intelligence this is the safest approach, because the real obstacles only appear in actual operation, and a blanket rollout without testing results in only a fraction of people using the tool. The group should be made up of volunteers from across departments, not just the technically skilled, so that the problems of ordinary users are also uncovered. What is to be tested, how long the pilot lasts, and the criteria for deciding on continuation are all determined in advance. Members of the pilot group later naturally become internal champions who help colleagues more than external training would.
