Alt text is an alternative text description of an image included directly in the page’s HTML code; it appears if the image itself fails to load for any reason, and it also assists blind and visually impaired users who use screen readers. Search engines also use it to understand the actual content of the image, which is important for image search as well as for the overall assessment of a page’s accessibility.
