Allocation is the total volume of funds set aside for a programme, priority or specific call for proposals. At state level, the allocation is determined by the partnership agreement – Slovakia has almost EUR 13 billion available from the cohesion policy funds for the 2021–2027 period. At the level of a call, the allocation directly affects applicants' chances: for closed calls, the best-rated projects are supported until the amount is exhausted, while for open calls the principle of order of submission applies and the call closes once the allocation is exhausted. In practice, it therefore pays to submit the application as early as possible. The provider may increase the allocation of a call if it identifies quality projects beyond its scope, or transfer unused funds between priorities after approval of a programme amendment. Unsuccessful applicants below the cut-off line are placed in a reserve list of projects and may be supported subsequently. Monitoring the state of the allocation is therefore an important part of the application strategy.
