Synthetic data is data that is artificially generated—usually using an AI model—to mimic the statistical properties of real data; it is used to train or test models when real data is unavailable, too expensive to collect, or sensitive from a privacy perspective. In addition to reducing costs, synthetic data helps protect privacy, as it does not contain actual personal information about real people.
