Intervention area is a code by which each project is classified into the European classification of types of support – for example support for small businesses, the energy efficiency of buildings, cycling infrastructure, or digital services. The code is assigned already in the call for proposals and carries two practical consequences. It determines what share of expenditure counts towards the climate and digital targets, and at the same time indicates which types of activities the provider expects under the given call. The applicant does not usually choose the code, but when preparing the project concept it is worth looking at its description, because it defines more precisely than the text of the call what falls under the measure. A mismatch between the proposed activities and the assigned intervention area is often a reason for the application to be rejected already at the formal check.
