Measurable project indicators are quantified values used to demonstrate the achievement of the objectives of a project funded from EU funds – for example, the number of supported enterprises, jobs created, buildings renovated or persons involved in training. Each call defines binding output and result indicators, to which the applicant commits with a specific target value in the application for the non-repayable financial contribution. Fulfilment of the indicators is reported in monitoring reports both during implementation and during the project's sustainability period. Failure to meet the target values can lead to a reduction of the contribution, a financial correction, or, in extreme cases, withdrawal from the contract, so when preparing the application it is important to set the values ambitiously yet realistically. The indicators also serve the European Commission in evaluating the benefits of the entire cohesion policy.
