Grants for municipalities and towns are support intended for local governments for projects in the public interest. Their scope is broad: reconstruction and insulation of public buildings, schools and kindergartens, water mains and sewerage, local roads and pavements, cycle paths, public lighting, waste management, social services, cultural monuments, and the digitalisation of the local authority. Sources tend to be programmes financed from EU funds, national grant schemes run by ministries, environmental funds and cross-border cooperation programmes. The greatest obstacle is usually not a lack of calls, but readiness: project documentation, final permits, settled land ownership and secured co-financing from the municipal budget. Municipalities that maintain a pipeline of prepared projects are able to respond even to calls with a short deadline, while others miss them.
