Dual education is a system in which a student at a secondary vocational school is educated theoretically at school and practically directly at an employer, on the basis of a training agreement. For companies, this is the most effective response to the shortage of qualified people, because they train future employees according to their own procedures. Entry requires verification of the capacity to provide practical instruction, carried out by a professional or trade organisation, and the provision of an instructor and suitable premises. The employer covers the costs of practical instruction and provides the student with material support, though part of these costs can be claimed for tax purposes, and separate support schemes also exist. It is worth planning involvement a year in advance, since recruitment of students takes place on fixed dates.
