A price quote is a document with which a company responds to an enquiry. If it contains only line items and a total, the customer compares it purely on price, because no other criterion was offered. A usable quote therefore begins with a summary of the situation and the goal in the customer's own words, continues with the proposed solution and the reasoning for why this particular approach, and only then states the scope, price and timeline. Also define what is not included in the price, which prevents later disputes. It has proven effective to offer two to three variants with a different scope, since the customer then decides which variant, not whether to proceed at all. State the validity of the quote, which gives a natural reason to decide, and agree a date on which to go through it together.
