Support for rental housing is aimed at expanding the supply of affordable rental flats with a regulated level of rent. It funds the construction, purchase or renovation of apartment buildings, with recipients typically being municipalities, towns, or entities cooperating with local government. The support carries an obligation to preserve the rental character of the flats for a long period and to let them to defined groups of residents according to set rules. For companies, the topic has a direct link to the availability of labour – a shortage of housing in a region is one of the main obstacles to filling positions, and some businesses address it with their own accommodation capacity. Support for rental housing is also provided from other national sources with separate conditions and deadlines. A municipality would therefore do well to assess the plan together with an overview of demand from employers in the surrounding area.
