The Intermediate Body (IB) is a ministry, agency or other institution to which the managing authority has delegated, by written agreement, part of its tasks in implementing a programme financed from EU funds. In practice, intermediate bodies announce calls within their subject area, receive and evaluate applications for non-repayable financial contributions, conclude contracts with recipients, administer payment requests, and carry out project checks. In the Slovakia Programme 2021–2027, examples of bodies acting as IBs include the Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic, the Ministry of the Environment of the Slovak Republic, the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Family of the Slovak Republic, and the Slovak Innovation and Energy Agency (SIEA). For the applicant, the intermediate body is the main point of contact throughout the whole life cycle of the project – from consultation on the intent, through evaluation of the application, to monitoring of sustainability.
