Editorial content review

Editorial content review is the process by which text is verified before publication. Its importance grows in proportion to the volume of content produced and to the use of tools that generate text quickly and convincingly even when they get it wrong. The review has three layers. The first is factual accuracy – figures, deadlines, legal references, and claims that must be verifiable against a source. The second is expert assessment by someone who understands the topic; this is precisely what distinguishes content with value from a retelling of other people's articles. The third is language and stylistic proofreading. Designate a single responsible approver and put a simple checklist in place. For specialist topics, state who verified the content and when – this strengthens credibility both with the reader and with search engines.
