Just Transition Fund (JTF)

The Just Transition Fund (JTF) is a European Union instrument that mitigates the social and economic consequences of the transition to a climate-neutral economy in regions most dependent on fossil fuels and high-emission industry. In Slovakia, three territories are eligible for JTF support: the Upper Nitra region following the end of coal mining, the Košice Region and the Banská Bystrica Region. The fund supports economic diversification, investment in small and medium-sized enterprises, research and innovation, clean energy, employee retraining and the revitalisation of areas affected by mining activity. Drawdown is conditional on an approved Territorial Just Transition Plan. JTF resources are implemented within the Slovakia Programme through a separate priority, with businesses, local governments and educational institutions from the eligible regions able to apply for support.
