Reasoning models are language models optimized for longer, step-by-step reasoning (known as a “chain of thought”) before generating a final answer, which significantly improves their accuracy on mathematical, logical, and multi-step analytical tasks. Unlike conventional models, which generate an answer almost instantly, reasoning models “think out loud” for longer; while this makes them slower, it also makes them more reliable when dealing with complex problems that require multiple logical steps.
