Conformity assessment is the procedure by which, before a high-risk AI system is placed on the market, it is verified to meet the requirements of the regulation. It is carried out either through the provider's internal control, or with the involvement of a notified body, that is an independent body designated for this purpose, depending on the type of system and the standards applied. The result is technical documentation, a declaration of conformity, and CE marking, by which the provider declares compliance. The system must be registered in the EU database. For Slovak companies the distinction of roles is essential: the obligation lies with the provider, that is the one who develops the system and places it on the market under its own name, but a company that substantially modifies or renames someone else's system becomes a provider itself. Likewise, whoever uses the system for a purpose other than the one it was intended for becomes a provider.
