Publishing project

A publishing project is aimed at issuing a book, catalogue, methodology, professional collection, or informational material. The budget includes authors' fees, editorial and language processing, graphic design, printing and distribution, and possibly the preparation of an electronic version. An essential part of the preparation is copyright – the rights to texts, photographs, and illustrations must be settled, including the scope of use and the print run. Providers monitor how the publication reaches readers, because printed copies stored in a cellar are a common result of poorly prepared projects. The intent should therefore include a specific distribution plan involving libraries, schools, or professional organisations, and, increasingly often, free access to an electronic version as well. For professional publications, it is recommended to arrange a peer review, which increases the value of the output and the chance of support. The print run should be derived from the distribution plan, not the other way around.
