New European Bauhaus

The New European Bauhaus is an initiative that combines environmental sustainability with aesthetics and the involvement of people in transforming the environment they live in. It does not take the form of one large fund, but is instead reflected in the criteria and calls of existing programmes, especially in the renovation of buildings, public spaces, cultural infrastructure, and territorial development. For applicants, this means that in these areas, projects that demonstrate not only a technical solution but also the quality of the architectural design and the involvement of residents in its preparation are increasingly given preferential scoring. The initiative also runs its own competitions and a network of partners. Local governments would do well to take these principles into account already when commissioning project documentation, since they cannot be added to a finished project afterwards.
