The European Social Fund Plus (ESF+) is the European Union's main instrument for investing in people. It was created in the 2021–2027 programming period by merging the original European Social Fund with the Youth Employment Initiative, the EaSI programme and the FEAD fund. The ESF+ finances projects aimed at increasing employment, retraining and lifelong learning, supporting disadvantaged groups on the labour market, social inclusion, combating poverty, and material assistance for the most deprived. In Slovakia, ESF+ funds are implemented through the Slovakia Programme, mainly under the objective of a More Social and Inclusive Slovakia, with the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Family of the Slovak Republic and the Ministry of Education as the key intermediate bodies. Typical recipients are municipalities, non-profit organisations, schools, and employers implementing training projects.
