Inventory tracking determines whether the availability shown matches reality. The problem arises mainly when selling across several channels at once – your own e-shop, marketplaces, comparison sites and a brick-and-mortar shop all draw from the same stock, and without synchronisation, a single item gets sold twice. The solution is a single source of truth for stock levels and reserving goods at the moment of order, not only at dispatch. Also account for goods that are physically in stock but reserved for unfinished orders or complaints. For a range with variants, records must be kept at the level of the individual variant, not the product. Set up an alert for low stock so that reordering happens before an item sells out.
