A certificate of course completion is a document confirming that an employee has completed training of a defined scope and content. Its practical value depends on the purpose. For projects financed from grants it is essential, since it serves as evidence for a measurable indicator and without it the training expenditure is not recognised. For management systems and certification to standards it forms part of the documentation of employees' competencies. In public procurement it may be a requirement for the supplier's personnel. Conversely, as proof of actual skill it has limited evidentiary value, especially in a fast-changing field. Companies therefore find it worthwhile to keep records of certificates where they need to demonstrate them, and to verify abilities in practice. When ordering training, it is therefore worth agreeing in advance whether and in what form certificates will be issued, including the number of hours stated on the document.
