Provider and deployer are the two basic roles that determine the scope of obligations under artificial intelligence rules. The provider develops the system or places it on the market under its own name and bears the bulk of the responsibility, including documentation, conformity assessment, and monitoring of the system after it is placed on the market. The deployer uses the system in its own activity, and its obligations are smaller, but not trivial – in particular using the system according to the instructions, ensuring human oversight, keeping records, and informing affected persons. The boundary between them is a dangerous one: if a company takes over someone else's model, substantially modifies it, or offers it under its own brand, it can become a provider with all the accompanying consequences. This is a common case with company chatbots built on someone else's model, so clarify the roles already in the contract with the supplier.
