Training Needs Analysis identifies which skills employees are lacking relative to what the company needs from them. Without it, training is ordered according to what a provider offers or whatever happens to be popular, and the benefit fails to materialise. It is carried out by comparing the requirements of individual positions against the current state, supplemented by interviews with managers and a short questionnaire among employees. A useful tool is a skills matrix, which records the level for each person and activity – it immediately shows where the company is dependent on a single person. For artificial intelligence, the analysis differs in that people often cannot name what they are missing because they are not aware of the possibilities, so it is worth including a short demonstration beforehand.
