Grants for the construction of a production hall are available on a more limited basis than support for technology. The building itself is usually eligible only when it is directly linked to the introduction of production or to innovation, not as a stand-alone investment intention. Regional investment aid is a significant source for larger projects that create jobs. Preparation is demanding: settled land ownership, project documentation, a final building permit and an environmental impact assessment, if required, are all needed. These steps take months to years, so they cannot be completed after a call is announced. In the budget, the adequacy of the price per square metre and the cost-effectiveness of the solution are assessed. The incentive-effect rule applies: work must not start before the application is submitted. It therefore pays for companies to prepare permitting documentation on an ongoing basis, independently of currently open calls.
