Transnational cooperation is a part of territorial cooperation that brings together partners from a larger number of countries within a macro-region, not only from the immediate border area. Slovak entities take part mainly in programmes for the Danube region and Central Europe. They fund topics that go beyond the borders of a single state – protection of water resources, adaptation to climate change, transport, innovation ecosystems, tourism and social innovation. Projects are predominantly so-called soft projects: the outputs tend to be strategies, methodologies, pilot trials and cooperation networks, not construction works. Applicants are local governments, universities, research and development agencies, and sometimes also companies. Submission requires a partnership from several countries and communication in English throughout the implementation.
