Perceptual map

A perceptual map is a simple tool that shows how customers perceive brands within a category. Two axes are chosen that genuinely matter for the customer's decision – for example price versus scope of service, or specialisation versus versatility – and brands, including yours, are placed within that space. The benefit is twofold. It shows whether your position overlaps with competitors, which means competition happens mainly on price, and whether there is space that no one has occupied. The key is to choose the axes according to the customer, not according to what the company likes to boast about, and to derive the placement from conversations with clients or the wording they use, not from your own conviction. Build the map also from the perspective of generative search engine answers, which already place you somewhere.
