AI Brand Visibility is the degree to which generative AI systems – ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude or AI Overviews – mention, cite and recommend a brand in answers to relevant user questions. It is becoming a new marketing metric alongside search rankings: when a user asks AI for the best solution in your category, what matters is whether the company appears in the answer, in what order, and with what rating. Measurement is carried out by systematically testing a set of prompts across AI tools and tracking the share of answers mentioning the brand, sentiment, and cited sources; a new category of monitoring tools has emerged specifically for this. Visibility is increased through GEO tactics: building mentions on the websites the models draw on – trade media, review platforms, Wikipedia, industry directories – publishing citable data and studies, keeping the company's description consistent across the internet, and structuring content so that AI can easily pick it up. Regular monitoring also reveals inaccurate or damaging information about the brand, which needs to be corrected at the source.
