Industry 4.0

Industry 4.0 refers to connecting production equipment, sensors and information systems so that production works with data in real time. In practice this involves concrete steps: collecting data from machines, tracking production orders, predictive maintenance based on equipment condition, a digital twin of a line, quality control through visual inspection, and connecting production with planning and warehousing. Support is provided under calls for innovation and digital transformation. For a company, the order of the steps matters – without reliable data collection, higher-level solutions have nothing to build on, so it is worth starting with measurement and record-keeping, not the most advanced technology. When applying for support, a project built around one specific production problem is therefore a stronger argument than a sweeping vision of a smart factory. Evaluators value a measurable benefit, not the scope of technologies.
