Selection criteria for operations determine how submitted applications are assessed and scored. They are divided into criteria verifying compliance with the basic conditions, which are assessed as yes or no, and evaluation criteria, under which points are awarded according to the quality of the intention. They are approved by the monitoring committee and must be non-discriminatory, transparent and published in advance – usually as an annex to the call. When writing an application, they are the single most useful document: they show what the assessor awards points for and to what extent, so it is worth adapting the structure of the text to them specifically. If a criterion asks, for example, for a description of sustainability, it is not enough to mention it in passing. Changing the criteria during an open call is possible only in exceptional cases and is published as an update.
