Exit intent

Exit intent is a technique that detects that a visitor is about to leave the page and shows them an offer – a discount, a downloadable resource, a cart reminder or the option to leave contact details. On desktop, departure is estimated from cursor movement toward the top browser controls; on mobile there is no reliable signal, so a delay or scroll depth is used instead. Effectiveness depends on whether the offer addresses the reason for leaving; a generic discount looks desperate and devalues the price. Set a limit so the pop-up does not appear repeatedly to the same person, do not use it on pages with an order in progress, and bear in mind that intrusive pop-ups can worsen the page's ranking, especially on mobile.
