Grants for culture and monuments cover two distinct areas. The first is support for cultural activities – events, artistic creation, publishing activity, and the work of ensembles and cultural centres – where the sources tend to be specialised funds, the ministry, self-governing regions and municipalities. The second is the restoration of monuments and heritage buildings, which has a stricter regime: any intervention in a national cultural monument requires an opinion and decision from the monuments office, which sets the conditions for the restoration, including materials and technologies. These directly affect the budget and timeline, so preparation should start there, not with the call. Cross-border programmes focused on cultural heritage are also common. For projects with visitor use, the sustainability of operation and any potential revenue are assessed.
