Grants for farmers form a separate system derived from the European Union's common agricultural policy and operate differently from ordinary business calls. They are divided into two distinct branches. The first is direct payments linked to the area farmed or the number of animals, applied for every year in a single application by a set deadline, and conditional on compliance with farming and land-care rules. The second is project support for investments – technology, buildings, processing of production, young farmers, irrigation – which are applied for through calls and follow a classic project cycle. Administration is overseen by the paying agency. The key thing is not to miss the deadline for the single application and to keep the land register in order, since discrepancies are the most common reason for reductions.
